Is not the whole land before you? Please separate from me. If you take the left, then I will go to the right; or if you go to the right, then I will go to the left. Genesis 13:9
Between two or more people options will sometimes arise in which a choice will have to be made. Both will not be able to make the same choice and will be opposite each other. Deciding who gets to make the first choice often leads to major disagreements. Both want to choose first.
As Abram and Lot were traveling along, they realized that they had too many people among them to live in the same area, the land could not support them. Abram gives Lot the first choice to choose which way to go, to the left or the right to new lands. Abram would go the opposite direction with his people.
When it comes to deciding who will get to go first in making a choice or doing something people often turn to random chances. They will play the rock, paper, scissors game or draw straws to make the decision.
Everyone wants to make the first choice because they want what is best for themselves. The world fights over being in control and choosing first.
Believers are to have the mind of Christ, that is to put others before self. Instead of choosing first, believers will allow others to make the first choice. Their trust is in God, not in their own choices.
Being willing to accept what may not appear to be the best in the eyes of people may be just what God wants the believer to have. God is able to use what is second best to build one up greater than what is number one. That is a sign of a humble heart and mind.
There will be times in which you and someone else will have to make opposite choices. One of you will have to make the first choice. It will be tempting to make that first choice yourself. Put your trust in God and allow the other person to make that choice. Doing this is blessing the other person and allowing God to work in both lives in His way and timing. God is able to use little to make a lot. He can also keep you from what could be trouble in the end.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know what God desires for you to have; that God will give you strength to allow others to be blessed in front of you; and that God will guide you in choices to be made.
