Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” Genesis 3:1
Hearing what someone else says is easy. Agreeing to it and following what was said is something different. People in the workplace will often hear what the boss said but then begin to question it and even twist it to make it something else than what was really said. This is done sometimes on accident and other times on purpose.
Moses records that the serpent came to the woman, Eve, and asked her if God really did say that she should not eat of every tree in the garden. God had actually said that they could eat of every tree except one.
Questioning and changing what was said is popular in this world. Politicians, during election time, are very quick to change what their opponent really said. They take what was said and twist it just little bit to get what was said to mean something totally different than what was originally meant.
Speaking in this way will often get people to begin to question what they believe or what was said.
In this same way people, both in and out of the church, will often question what God had said. They will take what He said and twist it a little, changing it up. Doing this is often done in order to allow for some sin to occur, just as it did in the garden with Eve.
Believers need to know what God said and stand upon what He said. As one knows God’s word more and more, one will not be deceived by this world into believing a false twisting of His word and sinning against Him.
The world is going to work at trying to trip you up and sin against God. This will often be done by getting you to question what God really said and wants of you. Sin will be made to look good and right, even though it is wrong and filled with death. Read and study God’s word and memorize it so that you will know the truth at all times. It is then that you will be able to recognize when the world is trying to get you to question and twist His word in the wrong way.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know what God has said; that God will give you full understanding of what He said; that God will keep you from being deceived questions the world asks; and that God will keep you from falling into sin.
