Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, Jude 1:24
Stumbling is something that no one wants to ever do. It will often cause pain and embarrassment. It usually occurs in the dark when one is walking around and is unable to see what is in front. Tripping over some piece of furniture or some other object in the way causes the person to fall down. Other times it is during the day when one is not paying attention to what is ahead.
As Jude is closing his letter, he gives a prayer of praise to the One who is able to keep believers from stumbling and to be able to present one as faultless before the Father with great joy.
The first thing that comes to mind when one hears about stumbling is the physical falling over something. Most can remember embarrassing moments when they had stumbled and how it felt and hurt their personal pride. People will do a lot to avoid ever stumbling, especially in public.
One way that people stumble a lot is in the area of sin. Believers are going along and fall into some sin. Sometimes it is a one time sin, while other times it is a pattern or lifestyle. People struggle with how to keep from stumbling in sin.
God has the ability to lead a person in a way that one will not stumble in sin. He gave the Holy Spirit to lead and guide the believer down the correct path of holiness and righteousness. Every time temptation to sin arises, God will make a way out of it. All one has to do is choose to be led by God and walk the path He has for them to keep from stumbling.
You have probably had times in which you have stumbled, hurting your knee, shin or leg somehow. It is painful and often embarrassing. In the same way you have stumbled in sin. Look to God and be led by the Holy Spirit in His holiness and righteousness. Take the path that He has laid out for you to keep from stumbling in sin. God knows the best path for you to walk and can keep you from stumbling if you will only trust and obey Him in every area of your life.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will lead you in a path that will keep you from stumbling; that you will hear the Holy Spirit’s leading you; and that always choose to follow God so that you will not stumble in sin.
