Hebrews 6:8 Thorns And Briers

but if it bears thorns and briers, it is rejected and near to being cursed, whose end is to be burned. Hebrews 6:8

When a garden is planted, the desire is to be able to harvest a lot of vegetables in the end. One of the challenges in the gardening process is to keep weeds, thorns and briers out of it. Without proper attention and work, thorns and briers can easily overcome a good garden and destroy all of the desired plants, making the garden worthless in the end and producing nothing of any value.

As the author talks about moving on in greater teachings, he talks of a garden that only produces thorns and briers. That garden is rejected and is going to get burned in the end.

Every individual’s life is a garden that has to be cultivated in order to produce something of value. In the beginning people are dead in sin and are unable to produce anything but sin and death.

The world focuses on how to produce things of the sinful nature, rejecting God and His word in their lives. People are filled with pride and do not want anything to do with God.

They are bearing thorns and briers of sin. Just like with thorns and briers in a garden, having no value, the final result of sin is death and eternal punishment in the lake of fire.

Once a person becomes a believer, the life is changed and is able to produce things of life. Just like a physical, vegetable garden one’s life takes some work to cultivate things of value–love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, holiness, righteousness and more. One has to allow God to till the garden of one’s life and pull out the thorns and briers that only bring about death, making one able to produce His fruit.

Your life is a garden that God has planted on this planet. Each day you get the choice as to what will be produced in your life. Do not allow the thorns and briers of sin to enter your life and destroy your life and end in being burned in the eternal lake of fire. Fill your life with the things of God that will produce an abundant life that will last for all eternity. Allow God to weed the thorns and briers out of your life so that you can produce His holiness and righteous fruits.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will reveal any thorns or briers in your life; that you will allow God to weed out any thorns and briers; and that your life will produce the good fruit of God.
