You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; therefore God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness more than Your companions. Hebrews 1:9
Finding gladness and joy in day to day living is very difficult for most people. People are burdened with struggles and difficulties that weigh heavy on their mind, keeping them down. Turning to anything that they can find, many will fight to try and find some gladness in their life, often failing and only going deeper into depression and hopelessness.
The writer of Hebrews begins with describing who Jesus is. Here he states that since He loved righteousness and hated lawlessness, God anointed Him with gladness.
Going through life the world tells people that in order to find gladness they must be able to do whatever they want with no repercussions. People want to be happy with what they want and in the way they want.
In the process of seeking to be happy, most will seek sinful ways that go against God. Playing with sin will cause one to be happy in the moment, but in the end, it brings on despair and hopelessness with no real meaning or value. It only leads to death, death of everything.
Believers in the church will often walk around depressed at times. Often this is because they are dabbling around in sin and refusing to seek His righteousness in every area of their life.
The best way to overcome depression is to seek God’s righteous way of living. Jesus sought righteousness and rejected all sin, no matter how tempting it was. He hated sin so much that He was willing to die to get it removed.
As believers walk in His righteousness and hate sin, they will know the gladness and joy of serving God and living for Him and by His standards more and more.
As you go through your days you must ask yourself how much gladness you really have. It is easy for gladness to show up in moments, but it should be there as a whole in your life. God has forgiven you of all your sins and given you life. He has laid out a plan on how you should live your life to the fullest. Put your focus on living in His righteous and holy ways and know the true gladness and joy that comes with living that way. As Jesus, love righteousness and hate sin.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the God’s righteous way of living; that you will hate all lawlessness and sin as much as Jesus did; that God will fill you with His gladness and joy; and that you will find gladness in living for God.
