Therefore, my beloved and long-for brethren, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, beloved. Philippians 4:1
Standing on something that is moving takes a little bit of work to remain balanced. On a boat that is in rough waters, that is bouncing up and down with the waves, it is even more difficult to stand steady. The rocky movement causes most people to lose their balance and fall completely down or to at least move from one spot to another. Many will either sit down or stand holding on to something that is solid to keep their balance.
After pointing out that their citizenship is in heaven, Paul encourages the Philippian believers to stand fast in the Lord.
It does not take any hard focus to be able to stand on solid ground that is not moving or is not surrounded by lots of movement. The majority of time people are standing on that type of physical ground.
Although the ground may be physically solid, the world is constantly changing what they are standing upon. Emotions and feelings are what rule the hearts of most people. The world is focused upon the here and now moments and are constantly changing. What is acceptable today may not be acceptable tomorrow. There is no solid foundation.
Believers are to stand upon Christ and His word. God and His word are never changing, being the same yesterday, today and forever, a rock-solid foundation. He guides through every situation in the same way. One can know how God expects one to live in every situation in life.
As the storms of life occur, attempting to throw off the believer and knock one down, believers can know that they are standing on a solid foundation. They can stand fast, assured of eternal life to come.
All around you there is chaos and turmoil going on. Some of that directly is striking at you, trying to knock you off of your feet and break you down. Do not allow yourself to be swayed and knocked down by the chaotic changing ways of the world. Put your trust in Jesus and stand firmly in Him. Know the foundation that Christ has laid out for you and stand upon it. He will never change, nor leave or forsake you as the world will do, so stand fast in the Lord.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know Jesus as a solid foundation; that you will stand upon God and His word; that you will not be swayed by the chaotic ways of the world; and that you will stand fast in Christ Jesus.
