But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. Ephesians 2:13
People like to be in the inner crowd. Being close to someone important or famous is the desire of many. It often means that the one being brought into the inner close circle of friendship is somebody important to someone greater. It builds up one’s confidence and value, regardless of what others may think or say. Yet, very few can be part of the inner circle of those who are very high up in celebrity status or the financial world.
As Paul tells the believers in Ephesus that they were saved by grace through faith, he tells them that after being far away, they are now brought close to the Father through the blood of Jesus.
Being able to get close to God is a dream of people around the world. It is commonly believed that one must do good works for God in order to get into His inner circle, if that is even a possibility.
Prior to believing in Jesus, every person is far away from God. Due to sin, there is a separation between God and every person that cannot be bridged by any human being, no matter how good that person is or what that person has done. All that is due to a person is death and punishment for eternity.
God, in the midst of His infinite love and grace, chose to make a way for a person to get near to Him. Having Jesus die upon the cross, shedding His blood for every sin ever committed by any person, He made a way to forgive the one who chooses to believe in Jesus. This allows one to come near to God and become one of His beloved children in Christ Jesus.
Being a human being, no matter who you are or where you live or the family you were brought up in, you were born in sin with a sinful nature. That sinful nature kept you far from God, since God cannot be around sin. You have the opportunity to get close to God. All it takes is for you to repent (be sorrowful for) your sins and believe in the work of Jesus upon the cross. Jesus will remove those sins and bring you close to the Father (God).
Are you close to Him today?
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will believe in the saving work of Jesus upon the cross; that you will know how close you can be to God in Christ Jesus; and that you will have a close relationship with God each day.
