Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God, 2 Corinthians 3:5
Being able to do what is needed on their own is the desire of most people. No one wants to have to rely upon others any more than is absolutely necessary. Relying upon others is usually seen as a weakness or a failure on the part of the individual. Doing it on one’s own abilities is a sign of strength, control and power.
Paul is telling the Corinthian church that he, and the other apostles, don’t think that they are able to do anything in and of themselves. All their abilities come from God.
The world is always pushing that one can do whatever one desires as long as one does what it takes to succeed. Every person is believed to be able to accomplish anything desired on one’s own. Pride rises up in the hearts of people pushing them to do what is needed to get the job done.
On the outside it appears that a person can do nearly everything needed if one pushes hard enough to overcome all obstacles. While it appears that way, it is a false way of thinking.
No person can do anything without God giving the ability to do it. It is God who gave a person life, strength, health and abilities. God created the air and food that people eat to survive. He is everything that a person needs to live life.
People in the church are used by God to do various ministries. Their abilities to do so come from God. One has to remember that it is not self that has the abilities or power to do the task. It is God who becomes their sufficiency to accomplish the task He has given them to do.
Each day that you do what is needed to be done may appear to you that it is being done in your own power and abilities. Realize that it is God who gives you your life, strength and abilities to do whatever He has placed before you each day. Without God, you do not even have the ability to breath. Rely upon God to be your sufficiency, to be all that you need to do what He has called you to do in building His kingdom on this earth.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know where your abilities come from; that you will rely upon God for all of your abilities; that God will not allow pride to overcome your heart; and that God will be all that you need.
