For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ. 2 Corinthians 1:5
Going through suffering is something that no one desires, yet every person has times of going through it. It can be very painful and extremely difficult on a person, never appearing to come to an end. While going through suffering, many do not receive much comfort, usually feeling completely abandoned and alone. People often do not know what to say to help a person, so they are left on their own in all of the pain and suffering.
As Paul opens his second letter to the church in Corinth, he points out that there is a lot of suffering in Christ, but at the same time there is a lot of comfort through Christ.
In a world that is dominated by sin, there will always be a lot of suffering and pain. Watching the news one can see that for every one piece of good news, there are dozens of articles on suffering. This comes in the way of abuse, death, sickness and violence in many different forms.
Many have the belief that as soon as one becomes a believer in Christ that the sufferings will come to an end. People expect a cheerful, happy path in Christ, and are surprised when that path is not always a happy one.
Although believing in Jesus does bring much joy, it also brings about a lot of suffering. Satan does not want the believer to follow Christ and will throw everything he can against the believer to stop one.
Jesus understands suffering more than any person ever could. As a result, He brings much comfort to the believer going through pain and suffering. There is a hope of eternal life with no more suffering one can have comfort in.
Going through life you will experience many times of pain and suffering for many different reasons. As a believer, it will not let up, in fact, it may get worse as the world attacks you. Put your hope in Christ and receive His comfort. God will pour more and more comfort on you as you trust in Him and lean on Him for strength when going through suffering and ridicule for His sake. Know that there is the hope of eternal salvation, and no more pain or suffering promised in Christ Jesus.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will give you strength during times of suffering; that you will know the comfort Jesus provides; and that you will not give up your walk with Jesus as the world strikes at you in many ways.
