Romans 1:14 Being A Debtor

I am a debtor both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to wise and to unwise. Romans 1:14

Being a debtor is owning something to someone else. No one really likes to be in debt to anyone else, though nearly all people have some bill that they owe. Many struggle to pay all of their bills and so they continually have an outstanding debt that needs to be taken care of. The goal should be to continually work as much as able at paying off any debt owed. Some debts cannot never be fully paid down.

Paul writes to the Roman church that he sees himself as a debtor to the Greeks and barbarians and to those who are wise or unwise.

Debt is often seen as a financial thing, owing money to someone else for some thing purchased or some service used. People will quickly run up a large debt in order to have what they want right away. Interest rates and late fees end up costing people with debt more than they can really afford, putting them in a backward spiral financially.

Although most debt deals around finances, believers have another debt that does not. Every believer is called by God to be His witness. Over half of the world’s population does not know who Jesus is, nor the hope and salvation that He provides.

Every believer was given an opportunity to believe in Jesus by some other believer being a witness of Jesus. They owe it to the world to share who Jesus is.

As many people that are in the world, no believer will ever be able to completely pay up that debt, however, each one can pay on it as much as possible by striving to tell as many people about Jesus as physically possible.

There are financial debts that you owe, and you work at paying those debts off. At the same time, there are people who you know and meet that need to hear about Jesus. You owe those people the opportunity to make a choice to follow Jesus or not. Take every chance you can to be His witness to every person you can. It may be your words to them that causes them to choose to repent of their sins and begin to believe in and follow Jesus.

Who can you work on paying your debt to today?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will reveal people in your life you can be a witness to; that you will tell everyone you can about Jesus and the hope He offers; and that you will not miss opportunities to tell people about Jesus.
