John 2:5 Do What He Says

His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” John 2:5

There are very few people who have an air of authority about them that when they give a command, others obey it immediately. People know and understand that the person in authority means business and knows what needs to be done or else there will be some very negative consequences. Very few people know someone who they know and trust well enough that when that person says something, they automatically obey it without question or hesitation.

John records when Jesus was at a wedding, the host ran out of wine, and no one knew what to do. Mary, Jesus’ mother, told the servants that whatever Jesus said to do, they were to do it.

Immediate, blind obedience is extremely difficult for most people. They want to know all the details and why it should be done that specific way and time before they do it. Others will also have another idea of what should be done. This becomes even more common when what is said to be done does not make any sense at all.

People who under the authority of others do not always know the reason why something should be done, nor do they need to know why. All that needs to be done is do it, trusting the one who gave the order.

God will often work in mysterious ways that are difficult to understand. He will ask the believer to step out in faith and do something that does not make sense. Just believing in Jesus does not fully make sense–He died on a cross–so how could He still be living?

As the believer does what God commands, one can see God do great miracles. He will be able to work in ways that one could never see without the step of obedience.

There will times in your life in which God will ask you to do something that appears to be insane, not making any sense. As that is done, you have a choice of whether to obey and do it or not. Make the choice to do whatever He says, the way He says it and when He says it. Know that God will never ask you to do something that He will not be with you on. He is always in the process of doing something great, if you will allow Him to by obeying Him.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will hear what God is calling you to do; that you will obey all the commands of God; and that you will see God do great miracles through your obedience.
