So he made haste and came down, and received Him joyfully. Luke 19:6
There are times in which a very important person calls someone, and that person quickly drops everything and receives that person. Focus is quickly turned from self to the important person being received. At the same time, many people ignore calls being made to them, even by friends and family. They just don’t want to answer or talk to that person in the moment. That person is not important enough to be received.
Luke records how Zacchaeus had been called by God and he quickly hurried down out of a tree to receive Jesus with great joy.
It is easy for a person to be caught up in the moment to miss great, life-changing opportunities. All they can see is their own immediate moment and not what is being offered to them.
One of the greatest life-changing opportunities a person can ever have is when Jesus calls one to be received. On the surface the world sees His call as just another good person, just like every other person in other religious beliefs. They do not see that He can provide the greatest life one can possibly imagine that runs for all eternity. Many ignore His call.
A few will hear His call and quickly stop what they are doing to receive Him with great joy and excitement. Something in their heart will stir to help them realize that it is Jesus that provides purpose and meaning to this life and a hope for eternal life.
Turning away from their old sinful ways of the world and becoming a disciple of Jesus takes priority in their life. They want Him around to teach them and lead them in the way of an abundant life.
Every day you probably receive calls from people you want to hear from and from others you do not want to talk to. You choose which ones to accept and which to reject.
One who is calling on a daily basis is Jesus. He wants to spend time with you, but you must be willing to receive Him into your life. Be willing to make the choice to quickly stop what you are doing; climb down from the busy tree of life you are on and receive Him. Find out what He has to offer you that is far better than anything this world can offer.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will hear Jesus calling you; that you will make the choice to accept Jesus with great joy; and that you will see what God has to offer you in Christ Jesus that the world cannot give.
