When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” Luke 5:4
Fishing is something that many people, both men and women, like to do. In order to catch some fish, it is required that one casts a line or net out into the water. Once the net is cast out, there is the chance of catching something in it. It will sometimes take some patience and time to catch the fish and a recasting of the net.
After speaking to the people for a while from Peter’s boat, Jesus tells Peter to go out into deeper waters and put out the nets to catch some fish. Peter does and catches a lot of fish, despite not catching anything all night.
Companies are always casting out nets for a catch using advertisements. They want to catch people’s attention and get them to purchase their product or service. The more they cast out, the higher the chance of getting more sales. Change in how they cast out and where they cast out must occur to keep getting new customers.
Believers may or may not be business owners or fishermen for fish, but they do have commission to catch people for God. In order to catch people for God, they must be willing to step out of the church building and go into the deep waters of this world.
The net that believers are to cast is the truth about who Jesus is, what He has done and can do. The more that they cast out their net, the higher the chance are they will catch men, women, boys and girls for God. They are giving others a chance to know Jesus and be saved. If they don’t cast out the net, then others may never be saved.
At some point in your life someone had cast out the net of the gospel message to you and you believed it and become a believer in Jesus. You now have a net of the gospel message to be cast out for others to hear and believe. Do not be afraid to step out of the church into the deep waters of this world to cast your net. Give others a chance to believe and be saved, building God’s kingdom here on earth.
Where can you cast your net today?
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will give you boldness to cast your net and be His witness; that God will give you the words to speak in being His witness; and that God will draw many to Himself through you.
