And she answered and said to Him, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs under the table eat from the children’s crumbs.” Mark 7:28
People desire to only have the best. Often people will go without something because they cannot have the best. It is beneath many to even think about taking something of inferior quality or beneath what is their normal. There are some that will throw out the leftovers and starve because it is not fresh and the best in their eyes.
Mark records a Greek woman, who was seeking healing for her child, telling Jesus that even the little dogs will eat the crumbs from the table of children. This was in response to Him saying that He had to feed the children first.
Pride often gets in the way of people receiving what they really need. People only want what is best and refuse to take anything less, not wanting to look needy.
Very few people are in a position in which they would be willing to eat the crumbs of food that fell on the floor and be grateful for those crumbs. They are not desperate enough to eat those crumbs.
In the same way that they are not willing to eat crumbs, many are unwilling to humble themselves before God and take whatever He is willing to give. They lose faith that even the little crumbs are better than nothing.
Believers will have faith in God no matter what He is willing to give in the moment. They will understand that a little crumb from God can go a long way in one’s life and is better than the steak dinners the world offers. They will go to God seeking His favor in giving them what is needed in their life.
You will have times in which you need something from God that the world cannot offer. As you seek God, He may answer in a way to test your faith in Him and how strong your desire is to get that one thing from Him. Do not allow pride to enter your heart and hold you back from receiving from God what He may have for you.
It may only be a crumb, but it will be the crumb that satisfies and meets your need in the moment. Seek God’s help and don’t give up as you wait on Him to give the needed crumbs in life.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will seek God for all of your needs; that you will take any crumbs God gives you; and that you will see God meeting your needs in His way and time.
