But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his business. Matthew 22:5
Phones usually have caller ID capabilities on them. When a phone call comes in it identifies who is calling. The purpose of the caller ID is to give the owner the ability to choose whether to accept or reject the phone call. Unwanted phone calls are then easily ignored, while ones that a person wants to accept can be easily accepted with no fear of who is calling.
Matthew records Jesus giving a parable about a king who invited many to a wedding. Many of the people ignored the invitation and went about their own personal business.
Invitations come in all the time. Businesses inviting a person to come to purchase something, marketers inviting to be a part of some business and friends inviting other friends to all types of events.
Sometimes a person is bombarded with so many invitations, that one ignores many of them. In the process of ignoring many, there are some that are very important that also get ignored and brushed aside.
God sends a call out to everyone to follow Him. It is His desire that none perish and die without Him. Jesus paid the price so that all could have eternal life with Him in heaven, in a home that was prepared for them. Yet, many reject His call. They choose to continue to live in their own little world of sin.
Others have accepted and become believers, but then reject the call of God to do His work. Many in the church have ignored God’s call to be His witness in this world. Instead, they choose to go about their own personal business. In the end they will be cast out.
Every person needs to hear the call of God and respond to it, not ignore it.
You have a cell phone in which you probably get calls that you ignore, because they are someone you do not want to talk with. While it may be acceptable to ignore those phone calls, it is not good to ignore the call of God in your life. Begin with accepting His call to believe in and follow Jesus. Then begin to accept His call to do His work here on earth in this life.
Ask yourself if you are accepting or ignoring God’s call in your life.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will hear the call of God upon your life; that you will not ignore God’s call; that you will accept God’s call in your life; and that you will do the work God has called you to do.
