Matthew 20:18-19 Not Avoiding A Hard Path

Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death, and deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify. And the third day He will rise again. Matthew 20:18-19

Throughout life people will often be faced with choices in which path to take. The choices will often include one that is an easier path and one that is more difficult and can involve times of great pain. Choosing which one to take can be difficult.

Matthew records Jesus telling the disciples that they had to go to Jerusalem where He will be betrayed, condemned, mocked, scourged and crucified, but He will also raise from the dead in three days.

The majority of people in the world do not like taking a difficult path, especially if the path is extremely dangerous. People do not like to go through a hard time and will do what it takes to avoid hard times. They will choose to take a different path or try to get around the difficulty in whatever method possible.

Believers also tend to try and avoid difficult paths. When things get difficult and hard, many will begin to blame God and get angry at Him for it. Acting in this way, they are refusing to trust God in His leading down a hard path, that in the end there will be a greater victory.

The believer needs to be led by the Holy Spirit in which path to take. Then, as the Holy Spirit leads down a hard path, trust that God knows what He is doing. It may be that in walking that difficult path it is the one in which thousands, millions or billions may be saved as it was for Jesus.

There will be times in which God will lead you down a hard path. He will reveal ahead of time what you will be walking into. You will have a choice of obeying Him and walking that path or disobeying Him and refusing to walk that path. No matter how difficult the path is, keep in mind that one day you will rise again and be given eternal life. Choose to walk each and every path God lays out before you, it may be the one in which many are touched by God and saved because you walked it.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will reveal the path He has for you to take; that you will trust God’s leading; and that you will choose to walk the path He has for you.
