Matthew 17:1 Getting Alone With God

Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; Matthew 17:1

Being alone is something that most people do not really like to have occur. People like to have others around to share life with. Couples, who really love each other, love to have time alone with each other. It allows them to grow closer together and know each other better. Often, however, people work to be around groups of other people just to party and have fun. One on one scares some people because of how closely one can see each other.

Matthew records that Jesus took Peter, James and John up on a mountain alone.

In large groups, people can just blend in and be whatever they want to be. Pain and sorrow can be drowned out. Problems that one is facing can be masked and hidden underneath. The world likes to have large groups so that one can be pressured easily into sinful activities and take one’s mind off of God and what He requires.

Believers can easily fall into this same mindset, even with other believers. Hiding behind large groups worshipping God hides what is truly going on in the heart. One cannot get to know God in a close relationship.

The best way to get to know God is to get alone with Him on a mountaintop. One needs to shut out the rest of the world to see Jesus as He really is and allow God to reveal who one really is on the inside. God’s holiness will shine light on darkness in the heart and mind and His grace will allow it to be dealt with and removed.

Spending time alone with God will change a person from the inside out.

If you could be anywhere, where would it be? Would it be with large groups of people? Or with an individual?

Make your heart’s desire to be alone with God above all else. Get close to Him so that you can know Him better and see Him for who He really is. Find a place and time in which you can close out the distractions of the world and meet with God. Having a mountaintop experience with God can change your life in how you see Him, the world and your own personal life.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will reveal more of Himself to you; that you will go up on a mountaintop to be alone with God; that God’s presence will change your life; and that you will know who God really is.
