Matthew 6:20 The Best Investment

but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. Matthew 6:20

Investment companies exist all over the world attempting to tell people where it is best to invest their money. Where to invest will range from investing in businesses to land and houses, gold, silver, or other material things. The idea of investing is for a person to protect what one has and to make more money from the investment. It is to financially provide for the future.

Matthew records Jesus telling the people to put their treasures in heaven where nothing can destroy them or steal them.

The challenge with investments is knowing where it is most secure. Listening to investment brokers, each one may say something different as to where it is best to invest.

No matter how secure an investment appears to be, there are things that occur that can destroy that investment. A business collapses, the economy drops, disaster strikes, sickness overcomes, and much more can happen to remove a well-intended investment.

Instead of focusing on investing in things of this world, believers are to lay up their treasures in heaven, invest in heaven. This begins with one’s own self, giving one’s life over to believing in Jesus for salvation.

Then one needs to work at building God’s kingdom. Building God’s kingdom begins with just being His witness. It also includes putting money towards supporting others who are building His kingdom, missionaries and other ministries.

Doing these things are a method of investing in something that will not perish, be destroyed by anything and cannot be stolen. The things of God are permanent and eternal, and bring rewards in heaven that only God can give.

Going through life you work for money, which gives you time to do things and money to invest in other things. Each day you must make a choice as to what you will do with your money, time, strength and abilities. Everything you do is an investment into something. While it may appear to be wise to invest in things of this world, those things are only temporary. They will rust, break down and can be stolen.

Invest your time, energy, talents and money into the things of God and His kingdom. Only the things of God are eternal and cannot be destroyed in any way or stolen. What are you investing in today?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will put your time, money, talents and energy in the things of God; that God will show you how you can invest in His kingdom; and that you will know the rewards God has in store for you.
