“I will send out the curse,” says the Lord of hosts; “It shall enter the house of the thief and the house of the one who swears falsely by My name. It shall remain in the midst of his house and consume it, with its timber and stones.” Zechariah 5:4
People are very quick to make promises of commitment, only to break those promises just as quickly. Promises are made to make payments on something, only to quickly stop making the required payments. As a result, there are often penalties that must be paid for breaking the promise made.
Zechariah records God saying that He will send out a curse into the houses of the thief and those who swear or promise falsely in His name. That curse shall consume that person’s house completely.
The majority of people do not like to be called or considered to be thieves. Being a thief is being a criminal and brings on punishment, that no one really desires.
While most people do not consider themselves as thieves, many people are. They may not physically steal from others, but many will attempt to steal from God. In every church there are many who swear by God’s name, in other words, they claim to believe in Jesus and are believers. Yet, in their hearts, they have nothing to do with God, it is all about self and looking good to others.
Living in this way is a false swearing in His name. At the moment they may appear to be getting away with it, but God will have a time of judgement. There will be a curse upon their house that brings a lack of joy, peace, provision and all other blessings from God.
Believers are to fully live for God, not just in word, but in heart and action. Then they will have the full blessings of God in their lives.
As a believer, you need to examine your life and see if you are truly living for God in every area of your life. It is easy to claim the promises of God, but not live the life He asks of you. Do not allow sin to have a hold in your life, causing you to steal from God and falsely swear by His name. Allow God to make you into a new creation as one who lives as His child, so that He can bring blessings upon you and not curses.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will live for God in every area of your life; that you will allow God to remove all falseness in your life; that you will not steal the blessings of God; and that God will be able to bless you and not curse you.
