Arise, go to Ninevah, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before me. Jonah 1:2
There are times when people have to carry a message to someone else. Sometimes those messages bring great news, while other times the news is negative or not so good. This can often be seen in the workplace. It is important that the message be delivered and done so correctly. If it is not delivered, then those to whom it was for will not be able to respond to it, causing greater problems.
The writer of Jonah opens the book with God telling Jonah to go to Ninevah to cry out against it because of its great wickedness.
Just as people in a business have times in which they must deliver a message, believers have a message that they must also deliver. The most basic message that believers must bring to others is that people are sinful against God, heading to hell and need to repent and believe in Jesus for salvation.
Currently many in the church love to talk about the love of God to the world but will ignore talking about the wickedness of people. Society says that it is mean to talk about a person as being bad and evil. Sin is ignored in order to just talk about love to make a person feel good.
Without pointing out sin, there is no reason to repent. With no reason to repent, there is no need for Jesus.
God will lead a believer to speak to others about their need for Jesus. It may be to another whole nation or a city as was with Jonah, or it may be just to a neighbor across the street or the co-worker. One must be willing to go and speak the whole word of God.
As a believer, God has a job for you to do in being a witness to someone else. Someone around you has a need to hear about Jesus and what God requires of them. Part of that message is pointing out sin that requires the forgiveness that Jesus freely provides. Without the forgiveness there is only the judgement of God.
Ask God to open your eyes to who you need to go and talk to today. Be open to the leading of the Holy Spirit to know the words that need to be spoken. Give others a chance to repent and believe in Jesus.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will lead you to others who need to hear His message; that you will boldly speak the whole message of God; and that God will use you to draw others to Him.
