Hear this, O priests! Take heed, O house of Israel! Give ear, O house of the king! For yours is the judgement, because you have been a snare to Mizpah and a net spread on Tabor. Hosea 5:1
Some hunters will set up a snare to capture an animal. The snare is set up with camouflage so that the animal does not see it. Inside the snare is placed some food that will entice the animal to come in and get, causing the snare to drop in place and capture the animal. In its desire for something, it is no longer free.
Hosea records God telling the priests, the people of Israel and the king to take note that they are under judgement because they had been a snare to Mizpah and Tabor.
Throughout nations around the world people are being a snare. They are leading other people into sinful ways of living. Not only are they leading adults into sin, but they are pushing children, as young as in kindergarten, to live a sinful life.
This snare is not just in person, but is broadcast through movies, television shows, music and books. Everywhere one looks or goes sin is being promoted as good and acceptable.
Along with the world promoting sin, there are some that are called believers in the church that are also promoting these lifestyles. It is made to look good and acceptable, causing others to take the bait and trap them into a life of sin and death.
Those who have chosen to set up this snare are going to come under the judgement of God for leading others into sin. True believers will point out sin and death and then point people towards God and life. They will not set a snare to trap others or lead them astray.
It will be easy for you to look around you and see the push to live in sin. On the surface sin can look good, just like the bait in a snare, but underneath it is a trap that will bring about death.
You are an influence to others. People are watching your every move and listening to your every word. Do not allow yourself to be a snare to others and trap them in a life of sin and death. Be a witness for Jesus and point them to true life that will last for eternity.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will open your eyes to the snares in this world; that God will guide you in not being a snare for sin; and that God will guide you in living the holy life He has called you to live as a believer in Jesus.
