But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of eunuchs that he might not defile himself. Daniel 1:9
Every person usually has something, or more, that they refuse to do for some reason or another. Not doing that thing is often out of fear, dislike, not understanding, or past training. They will do whatever it takes to not do that one thing, even if it may cost them a lot in the process of refusal.
Daniel was in captivity by King Nebuchadnezzar and was given the best food to eat by the king. He determined that he would not defile himself with the food offered by the king and requested that he not have to eat it.
The world has a lot of things to offer a person, both in food and in activities. Not having any set standard, the world will do whatever is desired. Sinful activities are accepted as a part of normal life for those without Christ in their lives. Since the world sees all activities as good, they will offer it to believers to take a part of those activities.
Until God calls the believer home, every believer is still in this world. Each and every day believers will have to make a choice as to whether they will take a part of what the world has to offer them.
Temptations to take in the sin that is offered will arise on a daily basis. The only way to overcome the temptations to sin against God is for one to determine in the heart to not do the sin. Fleeing all sin is the only true option for a believer, and then trusting God for all needed provisions.
Every day the world will try to offer you things to see, hear or do that are sinful against the one and only true God. Some of those things will look and sound good but are deadly for you to take a part of.
Determine in your heart today that you will not eat of the sin that the world has to offer you. Put your focus upon God and trust His provision for you. Jesus came to give you an abundant life. Walk in His ways, not the ways of this fallen world.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will purpose in your heart to not sin against God; that God will give you strength to flee all sin; and that you will see God’s provision for an abundant life each day.
