“Surely it is coming, and it shall be done,” says the Lord God. “This is the day of which I have spoken.” Ezekiel 39:8
Promises are made every day by people all over the world. At the same time, promises are broken by people every day all over the world. Trusting someone who makes a promise can sometimes be difficult, depending upon how many times one has had to deal with a broken promise. Many have grown to refuse to trust anyone who makes a promise, and learn not to expect anything good from anyone.
Ezekiel records God speaking about the judgement day of Gog is surely coming and it will happen as He has spoken. Later one can read that Gog was destroyed just as God had said it would be.
The world does not know, nor believe in God. They believe that Jesus died two thousand years ago and has never risen from the dead. As a result of this unbelief, they do not believe any of the promises of coming judgement against sin that they may hear.
In the same way, there are many in the church who claim to believe in God, but do not believe in His promises of coming judgement.
Some purposefully continue to live in sin, thinking that God accepts it since they have not been judged or punished yet. Others do not go out and be His witness with the Gospel message, because they really don’t believe in the coming judgement against those who don’t believe in Jesus.
Just as judgement came against Gog and Israel, judgement will come against those who don’t truly believe in Jesus and continue in sin. It may come in this life, or it may be at one’s death bed in the final judgement before the throne of God.
One must believe God’s promises and repent of all sin and follow Him with all of one’s heart, soul, mind and strength.
You have probably had some people break their promises to you and you have probably broken some promises you have made to others. Although people may be unfaithful in their promises, God is not. You can trust His word no matter what the circumstances or future looks like. In His mercy, God is holding off of punishment for sin right now. Do not allow yourself to remain in sinful acts but repent and turn from all sin. Give your whole life to God and accept the life He has for you.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will reveal any sin in your life; that you will repent and turn from all sin; that God will not have to punish you for sin; and that you will trust the promises of God.
