They will shave themselves completely bald because of you, gird themselves with sackcloth, and weep for you with bitterness of heart and bitter wailing. Ezekiel 27:31
There have been some men and women who were really well known for doing great things in helping others out. On the surface they appeared to be very selfless and great in building others up. Suddenly they fail in some area and are crushed and put in prison. The world then often mourns their downfall because of the good they had done, but then their failure in some moral way.
Ezekiel records a lament for the city of Tyre. It had been a very great city that helped everyone in the known world. They had failed and were destroyed. The people shaved themselves bald, wore sackcloth and weeped in bitterness of heart over their fall and destruction.
Throughout history there has been various preachers who have been able to reach hundreds of thousands with the gospel message. They were well known and preached the gospel with truth and strength. Suddenly something arose to the top in their life that was a moral failure and landed them in prison. Their ministry came to a crushing halt and thousands mourned their destruction.
Some believers often think that they can do some sin and get by with it. This sin is done in private and appears that no one knows about it. For a time it appears as if God does not see it or care about it.
God does see the sin and will eventually deal with it. If the person does not heed His warnings, God will crush the person under judgement. Others will weep at the loss and destruction.
Believers need to watch their lives carefully so that they do not get crushed and bring about the weeping of others.
As a believer, there are others who are watching you and relying upon you. Each day you have a choice, both publicly and privately, to follow God in all ways. You must be willing to flee all sin and temptations to sin.
Do not allow yourself to fall into some sin that God will have to deal with harshly. Keep your heart and life pure before God. Do not give others a reason to have to weep bitterly for you and mourn your loss because of some sin in your life.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will live the holy life God has called you to live; that God will strengthen you to not fall into sin; and that none will have to mourn the judgement of God upon your life and moral failure.
