Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, “If I declare it to you, will you not surely put me to death? And if I give you advice, you will not listen to me.” Jeremiah 38:15
People are always seeking advice on many different issues in their lives. Most commonly seen is seeking on how to get wealthy. While they are seeking, most do not heed the advice given. Often, they are seeking the easy way out of some situation, versus doing what is needed and required to make the change.
King Zedekiah had asked Jeremiah for some advice. Jeremiah asked him if he gave that advice, wouldn’t he kill him. Then he said that King Zedekiah would not listen to him, even if the advice were given.
Seeking advice is always an easy thing to do. There are thousands of books and online articles that give advice on nearly everything and anything a person could desire to know about. The real challenge comes in actually heeding the advice.
People often reject the advice because it sounds too simple, or too difficult, or too crazy to follow it. Advice will usually require change that is often painful and difficult to follow through with. Instead of following the advice, people end up doing their own thing.
This occurs among believers with God. Believers will often seek God for advice, but then reject what He has to say. Throughout the entire Bible, God teaches one how to live life in the best way possible. Living this way is living by faith, stepping out into the unknown, trusting God.
Since God created the heavens and the earth and all mankind, He knows what is best. He is the perfect architect of life. Nothing that God has done has ever failed. One needs to seek God for advice and then trust it and obey His advice.
You have most likely had times in which you sought some advice from a friend, online, a book or some other method. Each time you ask for advice, you have the freedom to follow it or reject it. While advice from a person may be faulty, the advice from God is perfect. Go to God first for all advice in any situation in your life. And then be willing to listen and follow that advice with all of your heart, soul, mind and strength. God will never fail you.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will seek God first for all advice; that you will trust God’s advice to you; and that you will obey God’s advice to you.
