Jeremiah 14:20 Acknowledging Sin

We acknowledge, O Lord, our wickedness and the iniquity of our fathers, for we have sinned against You. Jeremiah 14:20

One of the toughest things for people to do is to admit that they were wrong. No one likes to be wrong. No one likes to be seen in a negative light. All that people want others to see is the positive and to think the positive. It is painful to admit failure because it makes one look as though one is less than others and deserving of punishment.

Jeremiah admits before God, for the people of Israel, that his and their forefathers had sinned against Him and that they had also sinned against Him.

Every person has failed at something at some point in one’s life. No one has been perfect in absolutely everything. Along with failing in things of this world, every person has failed in following God and sinned against Him.

Admitting those failures is difficult for most people. They want to overlook those failures and forget all about them, as though they never occurred. It makes a person look and feel bad about themselves.

Yet, in order to be a believer in God and follow God, admission of guilt is the first thing one must do. Every person has sinned against God and has done wrong. Every person is guilty and deserving of death. Each person must recognize the sin in one’s life and the need for a Savior.

Once a person recognizes the sin, then one must admit it before God in order to repent of it, to turn away from those sins. God is then willing to forgive and remove all sin and give one eternal life. One must then believe that Jesus has forgiven those sins and given life.

You have failed at many things in life. The greatest thing you have failed at is in following God. You have sinned against God and disobeyed His commands. As a result, you are guilty of sin and deserving of death. Go before God and admit your guilt of sin and repent of it. Allow God to forgive you, remove those sins and give you a new life that will roll into all eternity. God is waiting for you and wants to forgive you, remove those sins and give you the life He has prepared for you.

What are you willing to acknowledge?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will repent of all sin in your life before God; that you will know the forgiveness God is willing to give; and that you will live the life of holiness and righteousness Jesus is providing.
