O Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness, that you may be saved. How long shall your evil thoughts lodge within you? Jeremiah 4:14
The heart is considered to be the center of one’s heart and actions. It is what causes a person to think, say or do something one way or another. Deep in the heart is the true desires of a person that manifest itself in outward actions and words. Seeing how a person speaks and acts can reveal what is in one’s heart, whether it is good or bad, righteous or evil.
Jeremiah quotes God telling the people of Jerusalem to wash their hearts from wickedness so that they can be saved. He also asks how long they will continue to hold on to evil thoughts.
Without God, the world has no solid set of standards in which one lives by. The moral standards of the world are fluid and change according to how one feels in the moment. This occurs from the heart being filled with wicked and evil thoughts.
Thinking in this way begins with jealousy and greed settling in the heart. As those things grow, anger, violence and greater things are brewing in the heart. Over time, they then spill over into the words and actions.
Throughout the church there are many who have allowed this type of thinking to rule in their hearts. It has become acceptable by many to participate in sin, while going to church.
Believers are to have their hearts washed by the blood of Jesus, cleansing one of sinful thoughts and desires so that they can be saved. Then they are to be filled with the Holy Spirit to be transformed with the renewing of the heart and mind. Evil thoughts and desires are to be kicked out and not allowed to take up lodging in the heart.
You must ask yourself on a regular basis what are the greatest desires of your heart. Then you must take a look at what is being manifested from your heart in your words and actions. Anything that is sin that can be seen in your actions or heard in your words or thought in your heart must be washed out and removed. Claim the blood of Jesus over your heart. Allow God to wash you clean, removing all sin and giving you new life. Be saved by the cleansing blood of Jesus in your life.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will reveal the thoughts of your heart; that you will allow Jesus to cleanse your heart of any evil; that God will guide you by His Holy Spirit in casting out evil thoughts; and that you will be saved by the blood of Jesus.
