All throughout the world people are looking for peace. Chaos, turmoil, struggles, pain and suffering can be seen everywhere. People look to things and activities to try and get the desired rest but finding none. The more they seek rest, the less it is found. Rest is being sought for in all the wrong places and wrong ways by the majority of the world, yet they continue to seek it in the same ways.
Isaiah quotes God is saying that the wicked are like a troubled sea. During a storm a sea cannot rest and only stirs up dirt and mud.
All the world seeks to please self in whatever means possible. There is no foundational standard of right and wrong. As long as one is happy and does not immediately harm another, it is acceptable, but there is no rest. Lives are like a sea in the midst of a storm, churning and in a rage, stirring up only dirt and garbage.
With a belief like this, there is no concept of sin in the eyes of the world. Nothing is really wrong or bad, except as seen in the eyes of the individual. God and His standards are rejected. The result then becomes that there is no rest or peace, but only chaos, turmoil and fear.
On the other side of things, believers know true peace and rest. They have chosen to obey God and turn away from all wickedness and sin.
Jesus had come to bring life and to bring it abundantly to those who have chosen to serve Him. Living for God brings about the needed rest to the body and soul. It causes peace between a person and God, and the person and other people.
On your average day, ask yourself how much rest you get. Is rest something that you are seeking, but never seem to be finding? Or are you able to find rest for your body, mind and soul in the midst of the chaos of this fallen world?
Turn from all sin and seek God and His ways to live your life. Live the holy life God has called you to live and find the peace and rest for your life. Do not allow your life to be the troubled sea that the world is living in.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the rest God has for you; that God will strengthen you to turn from all sin; and that God will guide you to keep your life from turning up dirt.
