The Lord of hosts has purposed it, to bring to dishonor the pride of all glory, to bring into contempt all the honorable of the earth. Isaiah 23:9
People and nations take great pride in what they have built up and accomplished all over the world. Pride can be seen in the individual all the way up to entire nations in dealing with the smallest of things to the greatest of things. The sense of accomplishment raises the level of pride and brings glory to the individual or nation, whether it is winning a game or building the tallest building.
Isaiah points out that God was getting ready to judge Tarshish and has purposed to bring dishonor and contempt to their pride of glory and honor.
Since the beginning of time, people have taken great pride in their accomplishments. Many of the accomplishments are made without the help of God in the attempt for mankind to reach the level of God and make themselves into gods. Pride becomes about self and what one can do and rejects God’s authority.
It may look like the world is winning the battle in making bigger and better things without a belief in God. The world is denying the existence of God and choose to dwell in their own glory and honor.
God is patient and desires all to come to know Jesus and bow to His authority. However, there will come a day when His patience will come to an end and He will bring about dishonor to those who have rejected Him. Judgement against people will be brought about and the great accomplishments will be crushed and destroyed.
Believers need to put on humility and get rid of all the pride in their lives. God is to be put on the throne of their lives and given all the glory and honor.
Accomplishments that you have been able to make in your life make it easy for pride to rise up in your heart. As that pride rises, it becomes easy to push God to the side and take on His glory and honor for yourself.
Always keep in mind that without God you have nothing and can do nothing. Give Him all the glory and honor for all that He has allowed you to do, so that in the end He does not have to bring about dishonor and contempt for your selfish accomplishments.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know what God has done in your life; that you will give God all the glory and honor due His name; and that God will never have to work against you.
