Therefore with joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. Isaiah 12:3
In today’s society people get their water from a faucet that gets the water from a city pump. They do not have to go out to a well and draw water up out of it. Even though people do not physically draw water from a well, they still need to get water from someplace, and all water received had ultimately came from a well from somewhere. Without water one cannot live very long and cannot grow any plants for food or raise animals for food.
Isaiah recognizes that God has become his salvation and then says that he will draw water with joy from the wells of salvation.
Life is often very rough and disappointing for people. Things go wrong and are extremely difficult, causing many to be depressed and worried. Finding real joy is nearly impossible when faced with an unsurmountable level of challenges and troubles.
The world searches for that joy in the physical things of this world that often will bring on greater troubles than they cover. Physical things, drugs and sex are used to attempt to bring about joy but end up destroying and bringing on depression.
Believers are not exempt from the troubles of this world. Many of the same problems occur in their lives. Seeking and finding joy is often difficult for many in the church and so they seek it in the same way as the world does.
Rather than seeking joy as the world does, believers need to draw find that joy in drawing water from the wells of salvation. Water can be refreshing, rejuvenating and life giving.
Knowing that one is being saved and has a future hope beyond all the troubles of this world, is life giving and refreshing. It gives one strength and joy to keep moving forward.
As you go through life there will be struggles along the way. Frustration and depression will push at your door. Dig down deep inside of the well of salvation that God has given you and find the joy and strength that is needed. God has forgiven you and removed the death sentence upon your head and given you a new life that goes beyond all the temporary troubles of this world. Grab that truth with joy to keep moving forward in what God has for you.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the salvation Jesus provides for you; that you will have joy in your salvation; and that you will find strength in the salvation God has given you.
