For the people do not turn to Him who strikes them, nor do they seek the Lord of hosts. Isaiah 9:13
During difficult times or times of disaster, people will ask a lot of questions. They want to know why things are occurring as they are. Often people seek whom to blame for what is happening, who let things get out of control bringing on problems greater than ever before. Anger rises and fighting back begins. It is very common that in this rise of anger people do not have their eyes open to see what the real problem is.
Isaiah writes that as great disaster is going on, the people do not turn to nor seek God who was striking them for their sins.
Horrible things occur in the lives of people all the time, sickness, death, injury, loss, pain, suffering and more. There are always a thousand questions as to why these things occur. On the surface it can often be seen as just a disease, a bad person, or something else to be blamed for it.
People will turn to other friends, books, psychologists and others to try and understand what is happening and why. One thing very few turn to is God. This even occurs inside the church with many people who claim to be believers and followers of Jesus.
There are times when God allows a strike on a person to get one’s attention back on Him. God allows disaster to strike a believer who has walked away from Him and turned to sinful ways. He does this to bring that person back to a saving knowledge of Jesus.
Anytime trouble hits, one must immediately turn to God and seek His wisdom, strength and direction. Repentance from sin may be needed to stop the disaster. God wants to build one up, not knock down, but will do so if needed.
Whenever trouble hits your life, ask yourself what do you do about it. While it is easy to run to other friends and self-help places, you need to turn to God. It may be God is trying to change you and get your attention. At a minimum you need His strength and guidance through every situation in your life. Put God first in your life, in both the good times and the bad times. Let Him direct your path through this life.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will turn to God in every situation; that you will seek God first; that God will not need to strike you for sin; and that you will walk the path God has for you.
