Isaiah 2:8 A Land Of Idols

Their land is also full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made. Isaiah 2:8

Throughout the far east there are many nations in which there are physical idols formed in some shape located everywhere. These idols are bowed down to, worshipped and called gods by the people. They are something that a person made by their own hands. Moving away from the far eastern nations, the concept of physical idols being gods grows much less, however, the number of idols that are worshipped does not decrease.

Isaiah describes the land as being full of idols that the people made by their own hands.

Western nations have never been known for making and worshipping idols as though they were gods. Yet, the western nations have just as many idols made by their own hands as the far eastern nations of the world.

Instead of bowing down to the idols and calling them gods, people make or purchase things that they give all of their time, money and effort to. This can also occur with jobs or positions that people have. So much time, effort and money are placed into things that they take the place of family, friends and even God, in which the things are now worshipped as though a god.

God is placed on the back burner of life and is often seen as a nuisance or hinderance to living life. Things are worshipped rather than just used and God being worshipped. He is no longer the center of the lives of most people, if He is even in the lives of most at all. This type of false worship has crept into the church.

Believers are to worship God and God alone and not the idols of this world. He is to be placed above all people and all things.

In your life you may have some things that you really like. While there is nothing wrong with having things, you must ask yourself how much time, money and effort you put into those things. If your time, money and effort are being poured more into those things, rather than into the things of God, you are worshipping false idols. Your house is filled with idols.

Remove those idols in your life and worship God first and foremost. Give Him the best of all that you have.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will reveal any idols in your life; that God will give you strength to remove all false idols in your life; and that you will worship and bow down only to God.
