Scarcely had I passed by them, when I found the one I love. I held him and would not let him go, until I had brought him to the house of my mother, and into the chamber of her who conceived me. Song of Solomon 3:4
Children are known for grabbing onto some toy that they love and refusing to let it go. In their minds it is theirs and no one else can have it, nor should have it. Adults will often do the same thing with certain things that they love, jobs, positions or toys, and not letting go.
The Shulamite woman goes out to seek the one she loves. Once she finds him, she grabs on to him and brings him home, refusing to let him go.
Grabbing onto something of value can be a good thing. However, much of what the world grabs on to really does not have great value outside of the moment. All the money, things and positions in this world are all temporary and will fall apart and fade away with time. Thieves can break in a steal many of those things.
The world is constantly out seeking things to satisfy their soul and give them the pleasure and joy that they desire. As they are seeking those things, often they are openly rejecting the One that can give them all that they are seeking and much more.
Every person needs to seek Jesus and find Him. Once a person has found Jesus, that one needs to hold on to Him tightly, refusing to let go and bring Him home. Jesus needs to become an intimate part of one’s life, entering every area of a believer’s life and heart, consuming the most private parts of one’s life.
There are things in this life that bring you some joy and some satisfaction. Many, if not all of those things, will fail in the end and fade away. Instead of seeking those things in this life, seek Jesus.
Make it your entire life’s effort to seek God and His ways. Put all of your trust and joy in God and the things of God. Have an intimate relationship with God, putting God first in your life and heart. Everything that God has for you will last for eternity and bring true satisfaction of the heart and soul.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will seek God with all of your heart, soul, mind and strength; that you will have an intimate relationship with God; and that you will trust God with all of your life and heart.
