Whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding; he who does so destroys his own soul. Proverbs 6:32
Most people believe that they can understand the things that they are doing or are a part of. Actions and thoughts are done all the time with a baseline of understanding what is being done in the moment. What is not often thought of is the results or consequences of those words or actions that may or will occur in the future. Things are said and done with no concern for the future or the harm being done.
Solomon states that the person who commits adultery lacks understanding and is destroying his soul.
Adultery is something that most people will say is a bad thing to do. While this is said, many people, both men and women, commit adultery on a regular basis. Sometimes it is physically, but more often it is with the mind.
Pornography is the largest business around the world. It is found in hundreds of different ways and is available for free. People look at porn and lust after the men and women in the pictures. Very often the people viewing it are married. Jesus said that just lusting after a woman is the same as adultery.
Those who commit adultery physically or mentally lack understanding. While it gives a momentary, temporary pleasure, it is destroying a marriage and one’s own soul. It is purposefully sinning against God and destroying what God had put together–marriage. Adultery puts up a wall between the spouses and between the individual and God.
Believers are to turn away from all sin. Temptation to commit adultery, physically or mentally, will be there, but the believer is to resist the devil and flee all temptation. That brings true understanding of the danger of adultery and all sin.
Whether you are married or not, do not allow the destruction of adultery or pornography in your life in any way. Understand how horrible sin is to God and how it destroys you from the inside out. The world will throw everything it can at you to get you to step into the sin of adultery and porn, resist the temptation and flee to God. Keep yourself pure and holy unto God and your current or future spouse. Do not destroy your soul and marriage for a temporary pleasure in sin.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as Lord and Savior; that God will open your eyes to ways you may be committing adultery; that God will give you strength to resist the temptation of adultery; and that God will give you understanding of what you are allowing in your life.
