Psalm 149:4 God Takes Pleasure In His People

For the Lord takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the humble with salvation. Psalm 149:4

It is common for those who are in high leadership to take advantage of those who are under them. People are used to help someone else get what one wants or needs, and often at any cost. Once what is desired is accomplished, people are discarded or left. There is no real pleasure in other people and seldom something of a lasting benefit to those people. Everything is about self and right now.

This psalmist had told the people to praise the Lord. Now he points out that God takes pleasure in His people and will make those who are humble better with salvation.

It is common to hear people state that they believe God hates them and is out to harm them. This is often believed because things did not go well for them in some situation in their life and they blame God for what had occurred. Looking at this closely, it all comes down to selfish pride and selfish pleasures, there is no humility involved.

From the beginning of creation God has cared for and taken pleasure in His people. Daily He walked with and talked with Adam and Eve in the garden. Throughout the old testament, one can see God helping His people. Ultimately, God showed His pleasure for His people by sending Jesus to die on the cross to pay for their sins, allowing Him to give them salvation.

This salvation is not something that is just for everyone, but for those who are humble. In order to receive the free gift of salvation, one must be willing to be humble, repent of sins and accept that gift of salvation. In that moment God takes pleasure in that person and provides the needed salvation.

Going through your life there are probably times in which you questioned that God takes pleasure in your life. Trouble and difficulties clouded your view of God. Do not allow yourself to get angry with God when things don’t appear to go right. Humble yourself to God’s will and desire for your life.

Allow God to step in and make you more like Jesus as He provides you your greatest need–salvation. He takes great delight and pleasure in you and only wants what is best for you in every area of your life.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know God takes pleasure in you; that you will be humble before God; that you will know the salvation Jesus provides; and that you will grow in the image of Jesus each day.
