Psalm 133:1 Dwelling In Unity

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! Psalm 133:1

Unity is something that most people would like to see but very rarely get to see it. Everyone has different views on nearly every subject possible and are very adamant that their way is the correct and only way there is. As a result, everyone lives against everyone else causing great disunity and fighting. This can be seen from individuals to families to whole nations, each doing their own thing and often against others in disunity and selfishness.

David talks about how good and pleasant it is when brethren dwell together in unity.

The world lives for self. Satan pushes people to live for self, look out for self and disregard others and what they feel. He is the author of chaos and disunity.

This same disunity can also often be found inside the church. People are often fighting over petty little disagreements, rather than dwelling together in unity. Each person has their own way of worship and fight against others who see it a different way.

The flip side of the church is that everyone lives in unity to the point that anything is acceptable, even things against God. Many churches try to live in unity with the world, that any religion will get one to heaven and sinful acts are acceptable. This is not the unity God desires.

When David talks about the brethren, he is talking about the believers. All believers need to learn to dwell together in unity, learning to get along and worship and serve God together, letting go of petty differences. As that occurs it is good and pleasant to the heart of everyone involved. It brings down the fighting and harming of each other and builds God’s kingdom up.

No matter where you live, work or go to church, you probably see some disunity and disagreements among those you are around. Some of that may even be found in your own personal views on various things. Seek to find common ground with other believers and stand upon that. Seek to worship and serve God with others, rather than against others. Doing this will put you at odds and disunity with the world, but bring you together with other believers, giving all the strength to walk the path of God and build His kingdom together.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will dwell with other believers in unity in Christ Jesus; that God will reveal what true unity in Him looks like in your life; and God will reveal what you must stand for or against with those you are around.
