I will not give sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, until I find a place for the Lord, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob. Psalm 132:4-5
There are certain tasks that people may have to accomplish that they will do whatever it takes to finish it. People will skip meals, sleep and anything else needed in order to get the job done because it is so important to them. Often those tasks are something that benefits the individual greater in some way or another. Rarely is it for someone else’s benefit.
The psalmist states that he will not allow him to sleep until he finds a dwelling place for God.
When something is extremely important to a person, it is easy to spend all of one’s time and effort on that item or task. A person can easily lose all sense of time when focused on one thing that is important. One loses concern for many things because of that one thing.
Sometimes that one thing can be important and good, but there are few things that can be placed as highest priority over everything else.
For most people, finding a place for God is not a high priority. People will sleep in or go play on Sundays, rather than go to worship God with others in a church setting. It is easier to turn on a tv or surf the internet than to make a place for God to dwell.
For believers, making God a place to dwell should be one’s highest priority. This is not making a physical place but making place in one’s heart and life for God to dwell at all times. It is living for God and obeying all of His commands, so that God can dwell in one’s life. Everything else should take second place in priority.
You have many different things in your life that call for your attention. Many of those things are important and are needed, however, there is only one that takes the number one spot, which is making a place for God. Make it a priority to make a place for God in your life. Spend time in His word and in prayer. Do not allow yourself to ignore God and step into sin, pushing Him out and giving Him no place to dwell in your life.
What are you willing to do to make a dwelling place for God in your life?
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will allow God to dwell fully in your life; that you will know the joy of God being in your life; and that you will make dwelling with God your highest priority.
