Psalm 123:1 Who Do You Look Up To?

Unto You I lift up my eyes, O You who dwell in the heavens. Psalm 123:1

People are always looking up to other people. The ones looked up to are often actors, singers, authors, bosses, sports figure, some other person in some type of leadership position or some person who has had a major influence in one’s life. Very often the people looked up to are one’s that cannot be touched because of the high-level position. Very few people can actually talk with a large actor or sports players, yet they look up to the people or direction in life.

The psalmist tells God that he lifts his eyes up to Him, the one who dwells in the heavens.

Looking up to some person appears to be helpful. They can often give encourage and hope that something can be done. They can also give guidance in how to accomplish some desired task.

However, at the same time that there can be good, often there is leading that does not lead one to God or on the right path of God. Very few celebrities point people to God and every person has points of failure. The majority of celebrities point people to sinful activities.

Instead of looking to other people, who will fail, people need to look up to God. It is God who has created all humankind, the world and everything in it. He understands everything and knows what is best in every situation. God is also perfect love that will never do anything that is bad or wrong.

Believers who turn their eyes up towards God are willing to be led by God’s Holy Spirit in every area of their life. They are willing to trust God with their whole life, because they know who God is.

You most likely have some people in your life that you look up to, who have been a great influence in your life. You also probably have some people you look up to that are not the best influence.

Instead of looking up to people, turn your eyes upon God. Get to know God and who He is. Realize how much He loves you and how great He is. He created you and knows what is best for you. Allow God to lead your life and be the greatest influencer in your life, in every area of your life.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know who God is; that you will know God’s great love for you; and that you will look up to God alone for guidance in your life.
