Psalm 14:2 Who/What Are You Seeking?

The Lord looks down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there are any who understand, who seek God. Psalm 14:2

From the time of birth people begin to seek for something. It begins with seeking the basics of life, food, love and comfort, and it never ends for the rest of one’s life. All that changes is what one is seeking for beyond the basics of life. Some will find what they are looking for, while others find that their heart’s desire evades them, and they never directly find it.

David says that God looks down upon people to see if there are any who have understanding and seek God.

Self-pleasure is the number one thing that people are seeking for in this life. Everyone wants to be happy and be able to do what they want, when they want and how they want, with no restrictions. Things, money and status are accumulated to great amounts, but will always leave a person seeking for more, not being fully fulfilled or filled.

Ultimately people seek to be their own little gods in this world, completely in control of everything in their lives. They do not seek God, but make other things their gods, including themselves.

Believers are people who have realized that nothing in this world can fully satisfy their soul and give them purpose that is worthwhile. Instead of fighting to find the temporary things of this world, that fade away, are stolen and wear out, they seek for God.

Jesus provides forgiveness of sins and gives a person purpose for life on this planet. He gives purpose that will extend beyond this temporary life into eternity after death. Without God, there is nothing and no purpose.

There are things that you must seek after for just basic life on this earth. While it is important to seek after these things, you must not forget to seek after God. Do not waste your time and efforts seeking after the temporary things of this world with all of your abilities.

It is only God, who is in absolute control, that can give you true life and purpose in this life and in the life to come. Take time daily to seek God through His word, in prayer, in nature and in others. Find out what He has for you and wants for you to do.

Who or what are you seeking for today?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will seek for God in His word; that your focus in life will be to know God more and more; that you will find purpose in obeying God’s commands; and that God will see you seeking Him each day.
