Nehemiah 2:13 Seeing What Was Torn Down

By night I went out through the Valley Gate toward the Jackal Well and the Dung Gate, examining the walls of Jerusalem, which had been broken down, and its gates, which had been destroyed by fire. Nehemiah 2:13

When a disaster strikes an area, there are workers who go into examine what occurred and how much damage was done. The entire purpose of doing this examination is to determine what it will take to restore everything back to its original state. Sometimes people will throw up their hands and give up without ever doing an examination.

Nehemiah went during the night to examine the walls and gate of Jerusalem to see how much damage had occurred.

Every year millions of people around the world go through the experience of a natural disaster in their lives. Homes and vehicles are destroyed and need to be rebuilt.

While there are lots of natural disasters going on there is a greater disaster that has occurred but is often ignored. This is the disaster of the souls of men and women around the world.

In every nation there is a problem with the acceptance and promotion of sin which causes the death of the soul. Walls of protection against sinful activity has been torn down. The gates are opened wide to sin and its promotion.

It has become so commonplace of a thing that many believers do not even see the disaster occurring right before their eyes. This causes many to not be a witness of who Jesus is and making disciples of all peoples.

Instead of ignoring what is going on around them, believers must open their eyes to see how ripe the field is for harvest. They need to see how many are heading to hell and do not even know it. Then they must take action to spread the gospel message and make disciples of Jesus, repairing the walls and gates.

Take time to take a look around you and see how many walls of morality and holiness have been torn down. Look at how the gates have been opened up to allowing sin more easily into the lives of people.

Let it break your heart at seeing the disaster of so many lives. Then allow it to stir your heart to go out and tell people about Jesus. Do as Jesus had said and make disciples of all people, rebuilding the walls and gates of Holiness and Righteousness in your life and the lives of others.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will open your eyes to the disaster that is right around you; that God will give you boldness to be His witness; that God will reveal broken walls in your own life; and that God will draw you and others closer to Him in holiness and righteousness.
