When such a person hears the words of this oath and they invoke a blessing on themselves, thinking, “I will be safe, even though I persist in going my own way,” they will bring disaster on the watered land as well as the dry. Deuteronomy 29:19

One of the number one focuses of people is being able to do their own thing. Very few people want to be told what to do because they think that they know what is best for themselves.

Everywhere one looks the self-choice is promoted over following the rules and building others up.

Moses told the people that anyone who persists in going his own way will bring disaster upon the land.

God, in His infinite wisdom and knowledge, has set up how people should live. He has given rules and principals to guide His people how to live best upon this earth. These commands and principals will teach how to deal with other people, deal with animals and deal with the land in the best way possible so that all will win in the end.

However, going all the way back to the Garden of Eden, man has chosen to try and make his own path, going his own way, rather than God’s path. Living in this way brings about an effect upon the earth. Mankind has destroyed land all across the earth by his selfish desires and works.

Along with the physical destruction of the land, God lifts His hand of favor and blessing from those who choose to go their own way. When people of a nation as a whole are serving God and walking in His path, the nation and land will enjoy His blessings and favor.

Instead of walking one’s own path, he must be willing to tread the path God has laid out before Him.

God has a path for you to walk on this earth. This path will include others to help build you up and keep you going forward on the correct path.

Walking away from the path God has for you will bring about disaster upon you and others, ultimately in eternal death in hell. You will never be safe on your own.

Do not allow yourself to buy into the lies of doing your own thing that the world is promoting. Focus your life on doing what is best for you and for everyone else–following God.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the path God has for you to walk; that you will obey God’s commands in your life; that you will walk with God every day; and that you will know the blessings and favor of walking with God.
