Deuteronomy 28:2 The Benefit Of Obedience

You will experience all these blessings if you obey the Lord your God: Deuteronomy 28:2

Most people are always searching for something extra, some blessing or favor above the normal. Some will go to extreme lengths to find coupons to get a little discount on some item they want to purchase at the store. They are willing to pay the price to get that blessing of paying just a little bit less and saving some money.

When people do not get the blessings, many are upset and frustrated. Often they will then blame others for their perceived loss.

Moses told the Israelites that they will experience many blessings if they obey God and then gives a list of those blessings which cover nearly every area of life.

It is common for people to feel that they are entitled to all the blessings from God because they repented and chose to believe in Jesus. Since God is a God of love, it is expected that He will automatically pour out blessings on everyone who follows Him.

Believing in Jesus is the first step to following God, but a believer must then also obey God. Many seek all of the blessings without obeying God, forgetting that God is in control and knows what is best for their lives. He is willing to guide and direct a person, but it does no good if the person is unwilling to obey.

Just as salvation is contingent upon repentance, blessings are contingent upon obedience. One cannot have one part without the other, they go hand in hand.

Obedience not only keeps a person on the right path, but it also gives God the ability to pour out blessings in every area of his life. Disobedience brings about the judgement of God as it did with Adam and Eve.

God is ready, willing and able to bless you above all that you can imagine or think. However, in order for Him to bless you in this way, you must be willing to obey Him in every area of your life.

Seek to know all the commands of God to you, both from the Bible and in His speaking to you through His Holy Spirit. Do not ignore those commands but be willing to obey each and every one. Then see God open the windows of heaven and pour out His blessings and favor upon you.

Will you obey God today?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as Lord and Savior; that you will know all of God’s commands to you; that you will joyfully obey everything God commands you to do; and that you will see the blessings of God unfold in your life.
