For the Lord your God detests anyone who does these things, anyone who deals dishonestly. Deuteronomy 25:16
Very few people like someone who is dishonest, yet many people are dishonest in many ways. Dishonesty can often be seen in business practices at a corporate level and in the workplace among the workers.
Although there are many rules against dishonesty in businesses and the workplace, it still occurs on a regular basis. People may not like dishonesty, but they will watch movies that promote it as being funny and good and then often do it themselves in various ways.
Moses told the people not to have differing weights because God detests those who deal dishonestly.
During the Biblical times using weights to measure the gold or silver was the way to determine the price of something. It was common for some business people to have two different weights, one light and one heavy, to be used to make more money.
Although using weights is no longer common, there are many other ways that businesses and people are dishonest.
Claiming something to be more than what it is, is probably the most common form of dishonesty. Treating people differently, while claiming to be fair to all is another common form of dishonesty. Stating that one has worked a full day, while having had sat around much of it is dishonest.
Many times, believers will treat people poorly in the church who do not look or act like them. Ministers will treat those who give generously better than those who do not give as much. God will detest those who act in this way.
Believers are to be honest in all that they say and do. Just as God treats everyone the same way by one standard, so believers must treat others the same.
As a believer you are not to have differing measures or weights. You are to treat everyone the same. This needs to happen whether you are a businessman or not.
How you treat co-workers, family members, neighbors, friends will reveal how honest you are. Do not cheat anyone out of anything for personal gain. Although others may not see it, God does and will detest you for it.
Speak and act in truth in everything that you say and do. It reveals who God is in you and builds your testimony of God’s work in you.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will reveal areas you may be dishonest in; that God will guide you in treating everyone honestly; and that God will never have to detest you because of your actions.
