Deuteronomy 24:14 Don’t Take Advantage Of The Poor

Do not take advantage of a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether that work is a fellow Israelite or a foreigner residing in one of your towns. Deuteronomy 24:14

Every nation and town has people who are poor but are willing to work hard for money to meet their needs. Alongside those poor are many wealthy people who hire the poor to do their work.

Very often the poor are hired at a very low minimum wage to do the work needed rather than pay them what they are worth. They are being taken advantaged of their difficult situation.

Moses told the people to not take advantage of the hired worker who is poor regardless of whether he is a native Israelite or a foreigner.

Most people would never admit that they take advantage of someone who is poor or in need, yet it occurs on a regular basis nearly every place a person goes. Sadly this occurs on a regular basis by believers.

Christians are often known as the worst tippers in restaurants on Sundays. The waitress is a ‘hired’ worker to serve the table, yet the believer does not tip or gives a very small one. Others will hire a person to do yard work but pay very little.

Believers are forgetting how generous God is with them and how God is meeting all of their own needs. Without Jesus a person is poor and needy, heading to hell and unable to change the situation on his own. God sent His son Jesus to give His life so that a person may have an abundant fulfilled life.

In the same way it is through a believer in which God works to meet the needs of others whether financially or emotionally.

Believers need to be a blessing to the poor, not taking advantage of them as the world does.

You may or may not directly hire a person to do work for you, but there are times people do work for you as with the case of a waitress. Do not take advantage of the poor person but be generous and pay them what he is truly worth.

Think about how you would want to be treated if you were in their shoes. The world, in its greed, will take advantage of the poor. You must be separate and different from the world and be like Jesus blessing the poor.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will reveal how you may take advantage of the poor; that God will show you how you can bless the needy; and that you will trust God for your needs.
