It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees Deuteronomy 17:19
Every nation on the earth has volumes of books that contain laws pertaining to nearly everything in its nation. These are to be guidelines on how things work and what can happen if the commands are not followed.
The goal of the laws is to keep peace, harmony and control among the people.
Moses told the Israelites that when they get a king, he is to copy the laws of God and keep it with him to be able to honor God and obey His law.
With as many rules that a nation has, it is impossible for any one person to actually know every rule in the lawbooks. Having this many rules leads to chaos and confusion.
While the world has a lot of rules, God has a limited number of rules. It is short enough that a person can read all of them in a day on his own.
Although there are not hundreds of thousands of rules, the commands of God cover every area of life. Not only do they cover every area of life, they can also be summed up in two commands of loving God and loving others.
Regardless of whether a person is a leader or just a common person, one can know, understand and obey the laws of God. One must take time to study and know God’s commands throughout the entire Bible. The believer can also have the Holy Spirit to lead and guide him in the commands of God.
Doing this will help the believer to live his life for God.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the commands of God; that God will strengthen you to obey His commands; that you will see God’s favor as you obey Him; and that God will build His kingdom through you.
