Deuteronomy 15:10 Give Generously

Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to. Deuteronomy 15:10

Regardless of where one goes in the world there are always some poor and needy people nearby. Most often people walk right past a poor person in need of something, refusing to help even though they have the ability to do so.

It is expected that family, the government or someone else will help the person out.

Moses pointed out that there will always be poor people but urged the Israelites to give generously and with a grateful heart to anyone who has a need. In doing so God would bless the giver and all that he does.

Greed and fear of not having enough for self often prevents most people from being willing to give to the needs of others. Others refuse to give because they feel that the poor person made bad decisions and is suffering the consequences of those decisions.

Any believer that chooses not to give to someone in need when he has the ability to has forgotten what God has given him. Before becoming saved by Jesus, every person is needy and poor, lost in sin and death and needing forgiveness and life. Jesus gave His life so that the believer could live.

In the same way that Jesus gave His life believers need to be willing to give some of what they have, their life, to the needs of others. God does not give any believer anything just to horde it, but to use it to help others and build His kingdom.

Giving needs to be done with a generous and grateful heart just as Jesus gave His life. As one does this, God will bless him with more to be able to give more.

You most likely know of some people who are in need of something. Although you may not be able to provide everything that a person may need, you have the ability to provide something. Do not keep your hand tightly closed, gripping on to what you have, but be generous and help meet the needs of others.

Trust God to meet your needs as you work to meet the needs of others. He will provide abundantly above your needs as you give generously to others.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will open your eyes to the needs of others; that you will give generously to those God puts in your path; and that you will see God’s amazing provision in your life as you give.
