Exodus 28:4 Wearing The Right Clothing

These are the garments they are to make: a breastpiece, an ephod, a robe, a woven tunic, a turban and a sash. They are to make these sacred garments for your brother Aaron and his sons, so they may serve me as priests. Exodus 28:4

Many business places require their workers to wear a certain type of clothing. This can range from steel-toed boots, gloves and a hard hat all the way up to a suit and tie or a specific company made uniform.

Wearing the required clothing can be for safety or for unity and identification or for overall appearance.

God tells Moses to have certain clothing made for Aaron and his sons. This clothing is to be sacred and used so that they can serve as priests.

Most people accept being told what to wear when they are working at a job whether they fully agree with it or not. They understand it is required in order to keep the job.

For Aaron and his sons, the clothing they were told to wear was physical clothing. While being physical the clothing was still sacred and holy. Believers in Jesus, however, are told to wear clothing that is not physical, but spiritual. Some of this clothing is for identification with Jesus, while other clothing is used for battle.

Some of the clothing used for identification are holiness, righteousness, love, purity, and grace. Some of the clothing used as armor for battle is belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, shield of faith, helmet of salvation, and sword of the Spirit.

Believers who are willing to put on the clothing God wants them to wear will be ready, willing and able to fight a spiritual battle and will be easily recognized as being in God’s army. Not wearing this clothing will make them vulnerable to the enemy and not identify with Jesus.

If you have a job, most likely you have to wear certain clothing. If you are willing to wear that certain clothing for temporary pay, you must be willing to wear the clothing God has for you that is for eternal pay.

Just as you take time to make sure you are correctly dressed for a job, take time to make sure you dressed for the job God has for you. While you are working your temporary job you are also working for God.

Are you dressed correctly for God’s work?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will put on the clothing God has for you each day; that you will be ready, willing and able to do the work God has for you to do; and that you will be easily identified as one in God’s service.
