Exodus 17:12 Holding Others Up

When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up–one on one side, one on the other–so that his hands remained steady till sunset. Exodus 17:12

Being a leader means that one must be willing to do more to lead than everyone else is doing. The workload will often be much heavier than for those being led.

Many leaders will attempt to do everything completely on their own, with no help. The best leaders have others beneath them, holding them up and strengthening them.

As the Israelites were in battle, Moses had to hold his hands up so that they would win. When his arms got heavy, Aaron and Hur helped by holding his hands up on each side.

Every believer is a leader to someone else or to a group of other people. As a leader the person has to carry the burden of being able to keep going, no matter how difficult it is or painful it is.

While God is there to give strength to keep going forward in leading, there are many times in which God uses others to help be the needed strength. Although it may be rare for a believer to have to physically hold another’s hands up, every one can help through other methods in holding the person up.

The bare minimum a believer can do to help someone is praying for them. Other times one can also give a physical hand of help taking a part of the load. Wisdom in how to handle the load can be offered. Finances can be provided for. Others can be encouraged to give a helping hand.

Believers need to seek ways to help hold up the hands of those who are leaders, so that the battle against spiritual darkness may be won.

Whether you are a leader or not, there will be times you will need to help others out. Begin with praying for them for God’s strength and direction. Then seek God as to how you may be able to hold the hands of others up.

Be willing to be used by God to strengthen others so that the battle may be won. No battle is won completely alone by one person, but by the whole family of God and His Holy Spirit.

Who can you hold up?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will have others to help hold you up in the Lord’s battle you will be in; that God will show you others whom you can hold their hands up in battle; and that God will give you the needed strength to win the battles in your life.
