So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said to him, “This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says: How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, so that they may worship me.” Exodus 10:3
Allowing someone else to be in complete authority takes humility for a person to accomplish it. Most will humble themselves somewhat to allow others to be in authority, but very few will allow anyone to be in absolute full and complete authority.
People like to be in control of their own lives and destinies.
Pharaoh kept refusing to let the Israelites go, so God asked, through Moses and Aaron, how long he would refuse to humble himself before Him and let the people go.
It is very easy for believers to say that it is the unbelievers who are refusing to humble themselves before God, but believers are also often guilty of doing the same thing.
God asks very little of a person to become a follower, but to remain a follower, God gives a lot of commands and directions. The base minimum for a person to do is to repent of all sin, in other words turn away from all sin. Next every believer is to be His witness. After those two things there are lots of other things that God demands that are about how to do those two things.
While most believers would agree with turning from sin, many do not. Many people are quick to say that the sin is just who they are and they cannot stop it. Or they may claim God has grace and mercy upon them and they don’t need to stop it.
This is not being humble and allowing God to be God and in absolute control. The true believer will humble himself and obey God in every area of his life.
Think about what things God has called you to do in your own personal life. Doing this must be done through the lens of the entire bible, not just sermons and your own feelings.
How well are you doing in obeying what God has commanded? Your level of obedience is a sign of your level of being humble before God and allowing Him to be in absolute control of your life. It is taking yourself off the throne and allowing God to be the Ruler.
Are you being humble before God?
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will be humble before God; that you will allow God to rule over your life; that you will do all that God demands of you; and that you will turn from all sin to serve God with your whole life.
