Hebrews 13:15 Profess His Name Through Praise

Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise–the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. Hebrews 13:15

Praise and honor are often given to a person who is outstanding in some area or does something very extraordinary. People who see someone do something great are willing to give some praise.

However, very few people are willing to give praise if it requires a sacrifice on their part. Instead of focusing on others, they focus upon themselves and what is best for them. They do not want to go out of their way for someone else.

As the author of Hebrews closes out this letter, he encourages the people to continually offer God a sacrifice of praise through Jesus. This can be seen as fruit from professing His name openly.

A sacrifice is something that a person gives up that he needs or could use. It will often hurt some or a lot in order to give it up.

The concept of giving a sacrifice of something is often frowned upon by modern believers, because it appears to be legalistic and of the law. In order to avoid a sacrifice, many will claim that Jesus is the only sacrifice.

Believers cannot sacrifice to God to gain salvation, but because they are saved they are willing to sacrifice to Him.

One of the greatest sacrifices a person can give God is the lips of praise. Directly giving God praise is one way. However, a greater way of praise is to talk about Jesus to everyone one meets. This can be difficult, takes precious time to do and may cost a lot, thus it is a sacrifice

When a person tells others about Jesus and God, he is giving the greatest praise possible. It is doing what Jesus came to do. It is following the heart of God.

Think of what Jesus had to sacrifice in order to take away your sins and give you life. Out of love for what He has done, be willing to give a sacrifice of praise.

Start with just taking time to directly praise God, telling Him how great He is and how much you love Him. Then continue the sacrifice of praise by telling others that same information.

The world is dying and needs to hear that message and it is the greatest honor you can give God as you pass it on.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will praise God continually throughout the day; that you will tell others about Jesus; that you will sacrifice your time, energy and resources to praise God; and that others will know Jesus through your praise.
